LVMH and Kering announced on Thursday, in Paris, that they are strengthening their joint charter aimed at better protecting models, according to FashionUnited France. The two groups are committing in particular to no longer employing minors to represent adults.

The new charter sets the minimum age at 18 for this type of representation. It also bans the smallest sizes: below size 34 (French sizing) for women, or below size 44 for men.

The previous joint version dated back to 2017 and set the minimum age at 16. Kering, for its part, had raised this threshold to 18 as early as 2019, on its own initiative, unlike LVMH, which had not followed suit at the time.

The two houses, rivals in the luxury market, together represent brands such as Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Vuitton and Dior. Designing a joint charter remains a rare step for these two groups, which are usually in direct competition.

The announcement comes just as the women's spring/summer Fashion Week in Paris has drawn to a close.
