Louis Vuitton is unveiling, according to the Journal du Luxe, a new trail retracing seven years of artistic interpretations of its Capucines bag. The temporary initiative is presented at the Grand Palais as part of Art Basel Paris, on the Balcon d'Honneur, where the bags are displayed as works of art in their own right.
The Artycapucines retrospective is open to the public from 23 to 25 October 2026. The project was launched in 2019 and brings together fourteen artists for this occasion, whose works engage in dialogue with the Capucines bags. Among them are Alex Israel, Urs Fischer, Sam Falls, Tschabalala Self, Josh Smith, Henry Taylor, Kennedy Yanko, Liza Lou, Billie Zangewa, Takashi Murakami and Frank Gehry.

The initiative also pays tribute to Yayoi Kusama, who died this year, whose work Every Day I Pray Love series (2023), on loan from Ota Fine Arts, is among the pieces on display.

Staging inspired by travel
The staging draws on archives and the transport of works of art: open crates, plinths and trunk-shaped structures make up the set, echoing the Maison's origins. It is within this setting that a Louis Vuitton suitcase dating from the 1930s is presented, signed by Keith Haring himself in the 1980s.

Keith Haring, the next artist to be honoured

This suitcase is displayed alongside a preview of the forthcoming Keith Haring x Louis Vuitton collection, announced for January 2027 in a limited edition. The American artist and activist, who died in 1990, will be the next to be honoured within the Artycapucines project. The collection will include a series of thirteen bags adorned with his most iconic motifs.
By bringing together archives, tributes and a preview of an upcoming collaboration, the Maison places this Parisian retrospective in the continuity of a project that, since its launch, has brought contemporary creation and an iconic object together.
